Janome Group Human Rights Policy

Janome operates as the leading company in the industry, driven by our corporate philosophy of aiming to promote people’s creativity and contribute to prosperity all over the world, and working to improve society and culture by consistently providing valuable products and services.
We believe that greater respect for human rights is essential for accelerating our business globally as we aim to enhance our corporate value and grow sustainably into the future.
We established the Janome Group Human Rights Policy based on the above philosophy to define our Group position on promoting respect for human rights.

1. Respect for human rights and compliance with relevant laws and regulations

We respect the human rights defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labour Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and conduct business in accordance with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We also comply with the laws and regulations in the countries and regions where we operate.

2. Scope of this policy and supplier expectations

This policy applies to all directors, officers and employees of Janome Corporation and its group companies, including those in non-standard employment. We also expect all suppliers and business partners involved with our products and services to support and comply with this policy.

3. Human rights due diligence

We have identified potential adverse impacts on human rights related to our business activities, and have established a due diligence process that is conducted on an ongoing basis to prevent and mitigate these impacts. Should it be found that we have caused or contributed to human rights violations, we are committed to remediation and remedy through appropriate measures.

4. Education and training to embed human rights awareness

To ensure effective implementation of this policy, we have established the Human Rights Education Promotions Committee to conduct regular education and training for all executives and employees.

5. Protection of human rights within our corporate activities

  1. (1) Zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment

    We do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, social status, place of origin, sex, age, disability status, health status, religion, beliefs, sexual orientation or gender identity, occupation, form of employment, or other differences. Furthermore, we do not tolerate any form of harassment, nor words or actions that cause physical or mental distress.
  2. (2) Zero tolerance for child labor and forced labor

    We do not tolerate any form of child labor, forced labor, slavery or labor procured through human trafficking.
  3. (3) Appropriate management of working hours and wages

    We manage working hours and payment of wages appropriately.
  4. (4) Occupational health and safety

    We take measures to ensure workplace health and safety, and strive to reduce the risk of occupational accidents and other hazards. We also strive to maintain the mental and physical wellbeing of our employees, and offer working environments where they can perform their duties in safety and good health.
  5. (5) Freedom of association and collective bargaining

    We comply with the rules and regulations of the countries and regions where we operate, and respect the rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining.
  6. (6) Protection of personal data

    We manage personal data appropriately and are committed to protection of privacy.
  7. (7) Ensuring product quality and safety

    We provide safe, high-quality products and services, and protect the safety and health of all of our stakeholders.
  8. (8) Coexistence with local communities

    We respect the cultures of local communities, and contribute to their sustainable development.

6. Initiatives to support respect for human rights

  1. (1) Dialogue and discussion with stakeholders

    We respect the perspectives of stakeholders whose human rights may be affected by our corporate activities, and will engage in dialogue and discussion to understand the relevant issues and work toward improvement.
  2. (2) Grievance mechanism and hotlines

    We will establish a mechanism for both the employees of our Group and of our business partners to report human rights concerns, and will strive to improve its effectiveness. We will guarantee strict confidentiality for those who use the hotlines and assure that they will not be subjected to unfavorable treatment.
  3. (3) Information disclosure

    We will regularly review the progress of our human rights initiatives and disclose information about them appropriately through our website and reports.

7. Final remarks

Guided by this policy, we will continue our efforts to address human rights issues and pursue improvements through transparent dialogue.
This policy will be reviewed as necessary in light of changes in social contexts and international norms as we deepen our commitment to respecting human rights.
