Janome releases the SewSwitch 30

In the past, JANOME launched “Combi” models. The models combine ordinary sewing and overlock functions in a single machine and have gained widespread popularity as one-of-a-kind models in the industry.
This time, the Combi models will return as “SewSwitch” to meet long-standing consumer needs. The SewSwitch 30 builds on the concept of the “Two-in-one sewing machine for home use” further refining its design, operability and functionality.

SewSwitch 30 equipped with the basic “Two-in-one sewing machine for home use” operability and functionality. To switch between the ordinary sewing and overlock side, turn the turntable lever on the front of the sewing machine. This is a killer feature, allowing you to enjoy two sewing machines in a space-saving design.

Exterior design concept

SewSwitch is a next-generation sewing machine that elevates two distinct sewing functions -ordinary sewing and overlock- beyond a simple hybrid into a single organic system.

The greatest design challenge was eliminating the structural and visual noise that inevitably accompanies the integration of these two functions. To achieve this, the central body serving both work areas is deliberately separated from the upper and lower frames, creating a dynamic surface composition that flows seamlessly from left to right. This bold design encloses the machine's complex internal structure while establishing a strong sense of unity throughout its form.

Another challenge was the unavoidable difference in bed height between the two sewing functions. Rather than concealing this structural constraint, the design transforms it into an intuitive guide for the user. A generous radius on the operator side, together with bold slanted lines across the front faces, clearly distinguishes the two work areas and naturally guides users toward the intended function. Through these design solutions, a structural necessity is transformed into a meaningful boundary.

Despite embodying two distinct functions, SewSwitch presents a clean, refined, and remarkably noise-free appearance. Challenging conventional expectations of sewing machines, it stands as a one-of-a-kind product that opens a new chapter in the future of sewing.
